FAQ
Traditionally Macs are not considered very gaming friendly.
Compared to Windows PCs the Mac game library is smaller and PCs
typically come with broader support for GPUs many games get optimized for.
With the latest Apple Silicon Macs this is about to change.
Which Macs with Apple Silicon are available?
Apple currently offers 3 different systems on their new Apple Silicon architecture.
The
MacBook Air (M1), the
MacBook Pro 13" (M1) as well as the
Mac mini (M1).
While all 3 come with slightly different thermal design approaches
and various options like 8GB vs 16GB of RAM
and in the case of the MacBook Air options for 7 vs 8 GPU cores
first real-world tests indicate that all variants of the Apple Silicon Macs
are in the same ballpark when it comes to gaming.
That said, make sure to check the sheet for performance reports
about the games and specs you care about.

Which Game Streaming Services are supported on Apple Silicon Macs?
GeForce Now (Nvidia), Stadia (Google), ShadowPC and Luna (Amazon) all work well on Apple Silicon Macs.
Which Controllers and Gamepads are supported on Apple Silicon Macs?
Apple Silicon Macs come with broad support for Controllers and Gamepads. Most Bluetooth controllers work out of the box.
That said, if you want controllers that are officially supported by Apple and that will work across devices in the Apple ecosystem
like iPhones, iPads, Apple TV as well as on other platforms like Android and PC we recommend the following:
Xbox One Wireless Controller with Bluetooth (Model 1708)
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2
Xbox Adaptive Controller
PlayStation DualShock 4 Wireless Controller
Apple on controller support:
HT210414
Note: some games and distribution methods like running Steam via
CrossOver
or Windows virtualization using Parallels currently don't have support for controllers.
We expect that controller support will be added over the next weeks and months.

How can I run Windows Games on Apple Silicon Macs?
Many games do have macOS or iOS versions that run well on Apple Silicon Macs.
Check our
game compatibility area to see if the games you are interested in are supported.
If a game is not available for macOS there are various ways to run games designed for Windows on Apple Silicon Macs.
CrossOver by CodeWeavers is a compatibility layer that allows you to
install Windows versions of games and to run them within macOS.
Another option is to virtualize a preview build of Windows 10 ARM using a preview version of
Parallels.
Last but not least there are game streaming platforms like GeForce Now (Nvidia), Stadia (Google), ShadowPC and Luna (Amazon)
which support a wide range of games that traditionally are only available for Windows.
